The Happiest Place on Earth

Spring break just ended. I am finally recovered enough to write about it. Road trip, amusement parks, medieval times dinner, swimming and tons of in room dining with On Demand movies. Our sons, Five and One-&-a-half. Mostly Fantastic, one Part Tragic! Day 1: A seven and a half hour drive with no car-sickness or road side emergencies. My 5yr old can talk for 5-6 hours non-stop, the questions are mind boggling, topics astonishing all starting with "Mommy." (This can cause migrane, I am not a fan of vacation!) Day 2: A lovely day at Legoland, arrive 9:45 am - park opens at 10:00, through the gates 10:05am(amazed). Rides and play structures until noonish find a lovely spot for lunch - kids get lunch in cute lego bag and are in heaven with LegoLand souvenir cup - parents get lunch on real place settings that is actually quite good. All in all fun is had by the entire family. Dinner by the hotel at a no name Mex place, great food kids are happy, back athe room we watch the Incredibles again. Day 3: Drive to Anahiem. Check in to hotel have lunch, swim, make reservations for a Medieval times dinner. As far as a place to bring the kids this place is it, no manners necessary! No need for "inside voices." The louder your section the better your Knight performs! Tournament Games and Drama interspersed with enjoyable food and much cheering. Our champion, "The Red Knight" is stabbed to death by a traitorous rogue, "The Green Knight." Although Five was upset it is still the, "Best dinner ever." Five loves Knights and could not have been more enchanted by the entire setting, our seats our right next to the King!Joy all around. Who knew vacation could be this good? Day 4: While requesting directions to Knotts Berry Farm, the front desk person suggests that Disneyland would be more enjoyable for 1.5 year old son, sounds good. We switch plans and head to "The Happiest Place on Earth." We arrive 9:30 am, park opened at 8:00am, by the time we get into the park we have waited in no fewer than 5 lines: parking, elevator, tram, security, tickets, bathroom, entrance gate, we are inside the park by 10:15 am. It is hot and crowded main street is practically stand still, the double stroller is convenient for clearing the way. We are heading to The many adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride and pass Splash Mountain, Five would like to ride, OK fast pass come back time is 4:05pm six hours away, line wait is 90 minutes, we convince Five to go on to Pooh, we get in line 30 minute wait. One-&-half and Five love it, lets go again. Not possible ride is now closed. Rabbit, Eeyore and Tigger are doing the meet & greet we get inline, they go on break. Things are starting to seem less and less happy. Five wants to go to Goofy's bounce house , it is now Noon and we have been on 1 ride, it is hot, both kids are starting to show signs of discontent. We walk trying to get on rides as we head to toon town, King Arthur's Merry Go Round, 2 hour wait no fast pass, same at the tea cups and it's a small world. Luck shines on us momentarily and we get a table in toon town and decide to have lunch. Nothing to write about premade sandwhiches in plastic boxes and sodas. One & a half falls asleep in the stroller, Five and I go to Goofy's Bounce House 45 minutes in line less than 2 in the bounce house, sadness increasing, Five is disappointed. It is now 1:30 pm, We head back towards main street hoping to catch the Buzz Lightyear show and ride, show is not for another hour, fast past come back time is 7:05 line is 2 hours. I am mumbling "Happiest Place on earth my ass" as I swerve around dwadling Disney lovers,as I look closer I do see alot of unhappy faces waiting in the lines, I wonder why are we doing this? Both partner and I will now do anything to make it a happy day for Five, we need a trip to the souvenir shop. After buying as much Buzz light year gear as they have, a stuffed Donald duck and 2 $7 Mickey balloons, we exit the park, even One & a half is happy. We run to the tram, wait 10 minutes for the parking garage elevator and finally hot, tired and with throbbing head we get back to the car. Not much happiness today. Day 5: Gorgeous drive to Santa Cruz. Stop along the way for lunch and out of the car time. More conversation with Five than I would have thought he had in him. Arrive at the hotel in time for dinner. Good food, wondeful wine, dessert to go and an in room movie. I can't wait to get home. Day 6: Drive home. Joy all around when we get in the door - The Happiest Place on Earth!
