PFCs, What and Where

PFCs, What are they? 
  • Perfluorinated Compounds, simply they makematerials oil, stain and water resistant and are used in many everyday products.  
  • PFCs don't degrade by any natural process, so once in the river, ground or body they are going to stay there. 
  • So what is the harm? when PFCs are heated they 
  • Manufacturers have aware of the dangers and health risks associated with of PFCs for decades! Little has been done legislatively to protect the environment or citizenry from these toxic chemicals. What is to say any replacement chemical will be safer? Best to avoid Non Stick all together!
Where? PFCs are found in an increasing array of everyday items
  • Grease resistant food packaging microwave popcorn bags, fast food wraooers and pizza boxes
  • Teflon / Non stick cookware
  • Slippery Fabrics such as Gor Tex
  • and other consumer items from lipstick to windshield wiper fluid
Avoiding and Reducing Exposure:
  • Bottom line, be sure to check labels and avoid products that contain these items.  
  • Ditch the non-stick cookware, use cast iron once you have it seasoned you'll never now why you choose the non stick stuff to begin with!
